Burntwood Langenkamp
Wetland Conservation Area
The Burntwood-Langenkamp Wetland Conservation Area was the first H2Ohio wetland established in the Grand Lake St. Mary Watershed. It is the home of 35 acres of meandering wetland marsh, 15 acres of forest and nearly 40 acres of upland prairie habitat. Over one mile of grass walking trail, an observation tower, an observation deck and a large parking area are included on the site.
More About the Wetlands
Owned by the Grand Lake St. Marys Lake Facilities Authority, the site treats passive high flows during all seasons and up to 0.5 million gallons of water is pumped from Burntwood Creek for treatment from April to October. The State of Ohio’s H2Ohio program was instrumental in developing the wetlands and monitors the nutrient removal efficacy of the site via the LEARN network (link). The site was established in 2021-2022.
The project was made possible by Clean Ohio Greenspace funding, H2Ohio funding through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the incredible Langenkamp Family. Access Engineering, MAD Scientist Associates, and VTF Excavation, LLC all worked on this project.
