Coldwater Creek Treatment Wetlands is the second water quality improvement wetland in the Grand Lake St. Marys watershed.  It includes 25 acres of constructed wetland, 20 acres of forest and nearly 250 acres of littoral (in-lake) wetlands.  The site includes 1.0 miles of gravel and grass walking trail and a parking area.

More About the Wetlands

Owned by the Mercer County Commissioners, the Coldwater Creek Treatment Wetlands were established in 2015.  Water is pumped from Coldwater Creek into the constructed wetlands for treatment (i.e. nutrient removal).  The wetlands operate from April through October of each year and upwards of 4 million gallons of water per day is pumped into the system.  The nutrient efficacy of the site is published each year (link to wetland summary).

The project was made possible by Clean Ohio Greenspace funding and State of Ohio Capital Improvement funding.  Access Engineering, KCI Associates, and VTF Excavation, LLC all worked on this project.
